Six buildings, with nineteen living units each were built on a beautiful hillside near Feldkirchen. The projects arose in a competition process and captivate through the simplification of the building volumes and maximization of living qualities.
The ensemble blends well into the surroundings. The individual, freestanding volumes arranged around a central green space, refer to the existing development structure in terms of scale, and adapt to the town’s special topography. They are connected through visual references, but with a uniform north–south orientation, preserve the permeability of the grounds and the distant view into the Alpine panorama.
Each of the building volumes consists of two parallel slabs, which are shifted slightly towards one another longitudinally. The glazed interstitial space creates a light and spacious circulation zone with barrier-free entrance. This arrangement lets the compact cube appear light and slender and at the same time, allows for optimal natural lighting throughout the entire length of the building.
Each of the apartments, ranging from sixty-four to ninety-five m², has a generous outdoor space in the form of a garden, loggia, terrace, or balcony. Flowing transitions lead from the private gardens over to the public parc: the central green space is meeting point, communication area, and playground, as well as a connection to Körausgraben. For residents, the “residential community” becomes an identity-forming reference area. A pedestrian path axis crosses the grounds, opening up the public spaces to visitors from outside, and creating a connection to the organically-developed town center. Open nature, with forests and meadows, begins directly at the edge of the property.
