Urban Integration & Context
Situated at the southern edge of the Gasometer forecourt, the Hallergasse project establishes a distinct architectural element within the Eyzinggasse development area. Despite its peripheral location, it is seamlessly integrated into the broader urban fabric through a direct connection to the central park. Core urban principles—such as public accessibility, integrated green space, and the interplay of built form and open areas—are reinterpreted here in a quieter, residentially focused context.
Plinth Zone & Phased Development
Due to an existing easement, the project is realized in two phases: initially with parking spaces along the southern edge, followed later by small-scale commercial units. A publicly accessible passage links the central park to the inner courtyard, improving microclimatic conditions while forming the spatial backbone of the ground floor. Lobbies, retail, and community spaces are oriented toward the park, while secondary functions are positioned at the rear. A planted pergola enhances the quality of stay and mitigates the risk of overheating.
Adaptable Living Spaces
The residential units are designed to provide “space for change.” Each apartment includes a switchable room, which can be integrated into the living area by removing an internal wall. Structural systems, building services, and layouts are conceived with future adaptability in mind—supporting long-term residential quality and resource-conscious planning.
Facade & Architectural Expression
The façade articulates the building’s internal structure through a calm yet sculptural composition of vertical and horizontal elements. Trellises provide greenery at the base, reinforcing the project’s ecological agenda. Generous, floor-to-ceiling windows open the apartments toward the park, accentuating the prominent corner at the central park and allowing daylight to reach even north-facing rooms.
