The city of Brackenheim is an important and traditional wine growing community. Its regional position should be supported, the existing structures offered space for further development, and varied synergies used.
Wine is the region’s most important product. The level of its presentation and mediation should correspond with its significance and high quality.
The concept joins all components of the ensemble as a hub—castle with cabaret, Theodor-Heuss House, city archive and wine center of excellence with exhibitions and comprehensive catering—to a greater whole, and shows the diversity of the regional competences that make this place special.
Wine is always at the center. The entire new building refers to wine, everything else remains withdrawn and finely nuanced. The new building is embedded in the castle’s recently uncovered moat. It is possible to again experience the historical design of the castle grounds, and the castle remains unaltered. The underground location of the new building in the old castle moat recalls traditional wine production and storage in cellars. The wine center of excellence is highly recognizable although it displays extreme reserve through its characteristic form.
