The music center “Haus der Musik in Innsbruck” in the heart of the historic city is designed as an “open house”, as a meeting place for different user groups. In this place of cultural identity and place where modernity and tradition meet, the artistic inspiration should be stimulated. As the hub of a cultural and educational district, the new building should have an inspiring effect on the entire neighborhood.
An open, permeable and transparent design based on a clear orientation towards the surrounding urban space supports this objective.
The building is positioned with respect to the necessary distance to nearby historic buildings and the protected trees. It is lifted and as a consequence gives place to an almost entirely open ground floor. The flow of movement circulates around the built volume and through all the levels, so that it literally merges with the urban space. There are three main entries – “Nordkette”, „Golden Roof ” and “University”.
